Habib (shown in the picture) is a new Muslim.
His brother recently passed away and as per his tribe’s custom, the surviving brother inherits all the possessions of the deceased including his family (wife and children)!
What concerns Habib the most about this tradition is that his brother left behind an idol that he used to worship and Habib is required to inherit this as well!
Habib has tried on several occasions to explain to his family and tribe that as a Muslim, he cannot partake in certain traditions as they go against Islam. Sadly, they always persist in swaying and forcing him to oblige, and this sparks confrontation.
It was the season for yam harvesting and there was a ritual to be performed to their gods for the harvest. Habib declined to participate and the village elders made sure to confront Habib about it. Habib stood firm and sternly stated that would be the last meeting he would attend on such matters!
Since then, the villagers relented. Habib visited our duat in the village and asked him to make dua for him.We pray that Allah protects and keeps Habib firm, and guides the rest of the villagers to Islam.
