How iERA Changed my life

My name is Benjamin Ishaaq Owusu from Ghana, a daee with iERA Ghana. I accepted Islam in 2010, and I can confess it wasn’t as easy as it is now for new Muslims in Ghana.

This is because back then, after taking my shahada, I never had an opportunity to learn or be mentored into Islam as iERA is currently doing with the different classes it has for new Muslims.

Consequently, I felt so confused and demoralised, that I nearly reverted to Christianity, the religion that I was accustomed to. Alhamdulillah, I didn’t; I met a brother who taught me a lot about Islam and helped me navigate through a lot of the challenges I initially had in practising Islam.

Besides the New Muslim support that iERA gives, I am also grateful for the experiences I have had over the period that I have worked with iERA as a daee. After finding my footing and starting to practise Islam, I sadly became very harsh with people who did not pay heed to the religion. This came from a place of strong love and passion that I had developed for Islam, unfortunately, I channelled it out in the wrong way. After learning how to give dawah with iERA and taking part in many village dawah activities; I became more patient.

Interacting with new Muslims from different religions, tribes and social backgrounds, makes you appreciate and be more empathetic of the different struggles each of them goes through. Indeed, practising Islam is not the same journey for everyone, hence when we see someone going astray, we need to be patient and approach the matter with knowledge and wisdom.

After the grace of Allah, I can truly say that iERA has helped me become a better person. Giving dawah comes with so much good for everyone!
