HOW TO WORSHIP

FROM SONGS TO SALAH

What would you do if you met two young men who invited you to their worship service? That’s what happened to our duat (preachers) in Malawi one morning as they were doing door-to-door dawah (inviting to Islam). The duat were curious about the brothers’ religion and decided to go and witness their way of worship, hoping they would get to have a dawah conversation afterwards.

When they got there, they were shocked! The worship service was nothing but singing and dancing to some songs. There was no prayer, no sermon, no scripture. Where did they get these teachings from?

“You asked us to join you for prayers but we didn’t see anyone praying, what happened?” the duat asked the two young men later as they left the service. “Didn’t you see us singing and dancing? That’s how we pray,” they responded.

The duat explained that that form of worship was not the way that was taught by the prophets God. They proceeded to teach them about the Islamic prayer; where one surrenders to the Creator in humility and sincerity, glorifies God with His names and attributes, seeks God’s forgiveness and guidance, and remembers God’s favors and blessings.

They told them how the Islamic prayer is a direct communication with God, without any intermediaries or rituals. They also told them more about Islam, its pillars, its articles of faith, its sources of knowledge, its moral values, its universal message. Eventually, they invited them to embrace Islam, the religion of truth and peace;and by the mercy of Allah, they accepted their invitation!

Our duat are working hard to spread Islam to people around the world and you too can be part of this noble mission by learning how to convey Islam effectively and confidently. iERA offers a FREE online dawah training course that will teach you how to share Islam to non-Muslims.
