Patience and Wisdom in Dawah: A Story from Botswana

In the process of calling non-Muslims to Islam, one may encounter individuals who are passionate and assertive about their beliefs. If the person giving Dawah lacks patience and proper training, this could easily lead to a heated argument. Such behavior contradicts Islamic teachings, as Allah instructs us in the Quran:

“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.” (Quran 16:125)

Recently, one of iERA’s female outreach specialists in Botswana found herself in such a situation. A sister whom she had previously invited to Islam invited her over to talk more about religion. During their lengthy discussion, which lasted nearly four hours, the non-Muslim lady was fervent in her attempts to convince the OS that Christianity was the only acceptable religion before God and that Jesus is the Lord.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the OS listened attentively and patiently. Towards the end of the discussion, she was able to use the non-Muslim lady’s views as evidence against her own beliefs, by the grace of Allah. As a result, the non-Muslim lady realised the error in her beliefs, and she was overwhelmed with emotion. She accepted Islam and expressed a strong desire to learn more.
